GoalBit Video Platform is an open-source based solution that manages all aspect of an online digital media, including live and on demand content. It includes server software and client software, as well as video sources provided by the content providers. The software is mainly part of the current GoalBit Platform release.

End-users access the service from their personal computers, video devices or dedicated set-top-boxes. End-users use a Web browser in order to select a video content, and they use the GoalBit Media Player client software (or other compatible technology as Flash) in order to watch the chosen video content.

The GoalBit Suite and GoalBit Media Server software check authentication/authorization via web services, perform the DRM license service, send encrypted data directly (traditional streaming) or indirectly (providing tracker's information so end-users can receive data via P2P streaming from peers) to end-users.

The GoalBit P2P distribution is designed to be used in two complementary scenarios:
	1.		In the video backend infrastructure, as a robust transport solution inside the datacenter, and between the remote origin broadcasters and the edge servers.
	2.		In the distribution to end-users, in order to have an efficient and scalable streaming mechanism.

The GoalBit Platform includes the following features:

	Ingestion and Transcoding
	GoalBit's Platform supports ingestion of premium rich-media content and user generated content (live and on demand).
	Allow publishers to use different transcoding profiles, depending on their publishing needs. Additional transcoding profiles can easily be added to the platform for publishing across different devices.
	Approximately 150 video and audio codecs.
	Three ingestion options: signal acquisition (for live contents), FTP upload (for on demand contents) and HTTP upload (for on demand contents).
	Once the publisher defines its default transcode policy, all on demand uploaded contents will be automatically transcoded using several encoding profiles defined in the policy.
	Content management
	On demand contents are automatically replicated in the platform depending on the content popularity, the available resources, and the default replication policy.
	Platform administrators can add or remove replicas at any time, for example to copy the content in a specific repository for a specific region or country, to improve the content delivery and reduce transmission costs or adjust to bandwidth restrictions.
	Content syndication
	Video syndication helps to ensure that end-users sees your contents. GoalBit Platform has a plug-in for you to syndicate your content to social networks.
	Storage, Replication and Backup
	Hosting the content at your own data-centers (or privately on the cloud) with our probed and efficient replication algorithms for live and on demand content.
	Hosting the content on your own CDN net-storage account, with GoalBit integrated net-storage.
	Delivery and Streaming
	Delivering of multi-screen video to any connected device: PCs, mobile handset, TV.
	Streaming live and on demand content for Windows Media, Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime and Real Media throw most popular 3rd party streaming servers integrated into the platform.

GoalBit Platform has three main components:

			GoalBit Media Player: is the client software, where end-users watch the video contents.
			GoalBit Media Server: is the streaming server software, used in video source acquisition, video processing (encoding, transcoding, filter processing), video transportation between servers in the datacenters, and video distribution to final users (using the GoalBit P2P protocol).
			GoalBit Suite: is a Web system, where you can manage the video streaming services. It offers an external API in order to be integrated in the service provider web portal.
